Happy Mother’s Day to all! To those of you whose mother is alive and with you on this joyous day…please enjoy and celebrate.
To those of you whose mother has transitioned and is now in the Spirit world. My heart is with you.
For those whose mother is alive but the relationship is not harmonious, my heart is also with yours. I feel your pain.
For those of us not in the first category this day may bring about grief mixed with regret that your mother is not with you.
Feelings of sadness, longing or yearning may fill you.
You may believe the grief you are experiencing doesn’t belong on this day.
I am here to give you permission to grieve.
I am here to say grief needs to be heard.
Grief needs to be validated and shared. The more we open ourselves to feel this grief.. the more healing energy we invite in. Know that these feelings truly came to pass. They come to pass through you, not to be held in the body and mind. Allow yourself to lean into what you feel.
I can assure you: “ you won’t be swept away or dragged under by these emotions”. These emotions are clearing you out. Opening you too feel more deeply. To feel more joy, to feel more happiness, to feel more love.
As the poet Rumi says: “It’s clearing you out for a new delight”.
To get through this Mother’s day if you are feeling grief. I offer you these tools for helping you move through your grief, with comfort, ease and grace:
Create a ritual. Ritual can give you a sense of feeling like there are things that still matter, and also things that you have some control over. Plus Ritual can help you to reconnect to the memory of the one you have lost. It gives you special time to remember the good times and to help you get through this difficult period.
Get with others and share funny stories about your mother.
Watch her favorite movie.
Cook her favorite meal. Or go to her favorite restaurant.
Display your mothers picture surrounded by flowers and or ribbons, crystals and incense.
Participate in a fun or adventurous activity that would get a nod of approval from her.
Rest know that grieving can be exhausting.
For those whose mother is alive but the relationship is not harmonious. Remain hopeful. Everyday brings a new opportunity for healing and renewal of this relationship.
Be kind to yourself.
Engage in your favorite fun activity.
Journal what’s on your heart this day.
Do something good for someone else on this Mother's Day.
Be with time with a friend that understands you and that allows you freely to say what’s on your heart.
Create a ritual for inviting more love into your own heart.
Get outside in nature. Nature has healing properties.
Know that all of these are rituals designed to bring you comfort and peace.
Now go and enjoy this special day of love with these tools in your back pocket or purse!
Grief has a super power! That super power is “Healing”.
As you move forward with your grief, know that one day you will be able to remember your mother with more love than pain.
